ImageIt’s July, and with the warmer weather, more people are eating and drinking outside, not to mention the Ice Cream Truck!  Parents please remind your children to throw their refuse in the garbage cans; our playgrounds are quite littered.  Grown-ups, you know better.  And please remember that alcohol consumption is not allowed outside your unit, including your patio or balcony.  This also includes the pool and clubhouse.

I have some suggestions that we hold a Town Meeting for the Meadows; a get-together for residents to air their concerns, their ideas and their issues.  The meetings could be held at the clubhouse.  So anyone interested in spearheading such a group, or attending the meetings please contact the office and let us know.  Also, let us know the best time for you to meet.  We could announce the first meeting in the August Meadowlark, and at that meeting a representative could be chosen to make your concerns to the Board.  These concerns would be placed on the next Board Meeting agenda, not heard during the “Guest” session, so that I t could be given all the attention needed.  This neighborhood belongs to us all; we all have a voice, if we use it.

Hope to hear from you soon; have a good summer and a safe and happy 4th!

CFL Recycling

ImageDo you have any dead or expired Compact Florescent Light Bulbs?  I have already had a few.  I didn’t know what to do with them.  Did you know that there have been some people in the media that have been scarring people about the fact that CFL’s have small trace amounts of mercury?  The fact that CFL’s have mercury is true.  You should treat them a little different than normal light bulbs.  One thing that bloggers and the media seem to forget in their story is that florescent light bulbs the kinds that are long tubes have always had mercury in them too.  So treating them with respect and not breaking them is important.  Now there is a really easy away to recycle them properly and do something good for the environment.  Home Depot is now recycling the lights they sell us.  All you have to do is take the bulb to Home Depot and take it to the service desk.  They will accept it and take care of the rest.  It is also important to recycle even the broken ones but don’t pick them up with your bare hands.  Get a soft paper towel and pick up the fragments and put them in a plastic bag and take the bag to Home Depot too.  Don’t forget to air out the room to remove any mercury vapor that may linger around.  You should only need 5 minutes or so of fresh air.  If you want more information on the CFL Recycling Program you can find more on this story here and here !
